Jones Named Director of
Facility for Chromatography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
September 1, 1998
Stephen S. Jones has been named the Director of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry's Facility for Chromatography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Mr. Jones received an M.S. from the University of Massachusetts and his B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy. He had previously been with our department for a number of years as an adjunct instructor. he had previous NMR experience while employed with Sigma Corporation in St. Louis.
The NMR is a 300 MHz high field Varian instrument that was purchased through an NSF ILI grant received in 1997. Dr. F.J. Heldrich was the lead P.I. in obataining this award. The College of Charelston provided a 50% match for this award. This state-of-the-art instrument will allow us to perform multi-nuclear spectra and enable our teaching and undergraduate research labs to recieve higherquality data and more quickly than we could before.
