Guidelines for Planning to Delete a Course
College of Charleston
Faculty Curriculum Committee

The primary criterion the committee uses when deciding to approve a course deletion is the rationale for the deletion.

Some questions to consider when deciding to delete a course:

1. How will the deletion of this course affect the programs with which it is affiliated? Is the course required by any programs (for a major or minor)? Is the course a pre-requisite for other courses (inside or outside its department)?

2. Is the course being dropped because it has not been offered recently– if so, is it likely there will be student demand for the course in thefuture?

3. Will the deletion of this course mean the deletion of its content from all affiliated programs? How will this content deletion affect the quality and coverage of affiliated programs?

If the course to be dropped will impact another program, make certain to provide documents of support from the affected program(s).
