Environmental Field Technicians - GA / SC

My company (Advent Environmental, Inc.) is looking to hire one, and possibly two, entry level personnel (BS/BA degree, no experience).  We’re looking for field tech personnel, so obviously, if you don’t like being outside, this is not the job for you.  We’re not limiting our search to just geologists, we will accept chemists, biologists, physicists, etc (pretty much anyone with a degree in a science).

Someone who already has had the OSHA 40 HAZWPR training would be a plus, but we can provide that training as well.  Extended periods of travel would be required.  This person would be initially posted to Albany, GA for two to three months (three weeks onsite, one week at homestation in rotation with me most likely).  We would to prefer to hire someone immediately, but if you have someone in mind who is very squared away, and will graduate in December we can probably wait.

Anyone that you know of who would be interested should submit a resume to:

Organizational Overview

Children are born with a natural curiosity about the world around them. By ninth grade, however, there is a documented decline in science achievement, and curiosity has faded or been transformed into apprehension or disinterest. This problem is evidenced by the fact that two-thirds of Washington’s 8th and 10th graders have failed the state science exam (WASL) for the past three years.

Furthermore, only half as many 8th grade girls as boys show an interest in science despite the fact that in the 4th grade the two genders recorded equal interest. By inspiring young and curious minds, we believe that we will promote scientific literacy of Puget Sound’s youth, and that by exposing them to the complexities of the marine ecosystem, build lasting stewardship.

Salish Sea Expeditions was founded to inspire a passion for exploring, understanding and respecting the marine environment through hands-on scientific inquiry on Puget Sound. Our boat-based educational programs encourage leadership development, a sense of curiosity and empowerment in students as they design and carry out multi-day scientific research projects aboard a 61’ research vessel.

Now celebrating our 10th year of programs, we’ve built a reputation for providing outstanding inquiry-based science education programs, and have been recognized by our peers as being a leader in this pedagogical method. Salish provides voyages of discovery for up to 650 students annually from 30 schools and organizations; 75% of all programs serve public schools and 25% receive additional cost subsidies to ensure that our programs are accessible. Salish Sea Expeditions is at a particularly exciting time in our organizational development. For the last several program seasons, we’ve been unable to meet the demand for our programs. We anticipate this interest to continue because of the growing public awareness of the shortcomings in science education and the need to keep children connected to nature; and the new Washington State initiative focused on restoring the Sound’s health by 2020. As a result, Salish is considering the impact of adding a second vessel to our educational fleet, enabling us to double our spring and fall capacity and launch an equally innovative and meaningful summer program.
