Qualifications:

3 years previous experience in the design, development or implementation
of a recycling or other environmental program is desired. Successful

and public speaking skills, the ability to effectively communicate with
a wide variety of people, and the capacity to manage multiple projects

Sea Turtle Technician/Educator - GA (Closing Date: March 31, 2006)

Location: Georgia Sea Turtle Center - Jekyll Island, Georgia

Description: The Georgia Sea Turtle Center has two seasonal, hourly
positions available to monitor nesting of loggerhead sea turtles on
Jekyll Island, Georgia. The successful applicant will assist with the
daily patrols of Jekyll's fifteen kilometer beach. Activities will
include locating and marking active sea turtle nests, relocating
threatened nests, collecting hatchling data, and teaching sea turtle and
marine education programs. Additional work duties include facilitating
nightly sea turtle walks, assisting with curriculum and program design,
and maintaining four-wheel drive vehicle and other scientific equipment.

Qualifications: This position requires good observation and
communication skills and a willingness to work and live in a group
setting. Applicants should be comfortable teaching and leading large
groups of all ages, coordinating volunteers, and interacting with
beach-goers. Prior experience with environmental education, biological
fieldwork, GPS, and data entry desirable. Preference will be given to
applicants who possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or
university in wildlife biology, ecology, environmental education, or a
related field. Work will include long hours performed at night, during
weekends, and in hot, buggy, and sometimes inclement field conditions.

Additional unpaid internships are also available for qualified
undergraduates.

Duration: May 1 through October 31 2005 (negotiable).

Global Roundtable on Climate Change - NY

The Global Roundtable on Climate Change is hiring a Project Manager for
its working group on technology and engineering. Please note that this
is a different job than the Program Coordinator position.

The Global Roundtable on Climate Change is an effort by the Earth
Institute at Columbia University to assist creation of an improved
global consensus and to catalyze effective cross-sectoral action on
climate change. The Roundtable brings together high level stakeholders
from business, civil society and government to discuss responses to
climate change and attempt to reach consensus on some basic elements of
an international strategy to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

The Project Manager will be responsible for day-to-day management of the
research of Working Group-II (WG-II) on technology and engineering, one
of five working groups established to support the activities of the
GROCC. Management of this group includes preparation of all WG-II
written deliverables, including a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
policy statement and other assessments/statements proposed by
participants in the GROCC or WG-II. The Project Manager will manage
demonstration projects and other collaborative efforts between CU and
GROCC participants on energy (especially CCS) and will engage in
outreach to GROCC participants and others with reference to potential
demonstration projects and potential association in CSE/EI programs and
projects. The position offers opportunities for substantive
participation in meetings, development of reports/white-papers, or
presentations at conferences.

NSF Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) (Closing Date: June 19, 2006)

SYNOPSIS:

This program supports fellowships and associated training that will
enable graduate students and advanced undergraduates in the sciences,
technology, mathematics, and engineering to acquire additional skills to
broadly prepare them for professional and scientific careers in the
21st century.

OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of the GK-12 program are: to support highly qualified
graduate students in NSF- supported STEM disciplines through Fellowships
to provide them with an opportunity to acquire additional skills that
will broadly prepare them for professional and scientific careers in the
21st century; to improve STEM instruction in K-12 schools; and to
provide institutions of higher education with an opportunity to make a
permanent change in their graduate programs by including partnerships
with K-12 schools in a manner that is of mutual benefit to their
faculties and students.

Fellows, selected by awardee institutions, will work directly with GK-12
Teachers in and out of the classroom to, for example: connect K-12
learning to scientific methods needed for further study in STEM
disciplines; provide role models for future STEM professionals; enhance
GK-12 Teachers' content knowledge and understanding of principles of
mathematics and the sciences; and jointly design and deliver K-12
science and mathematics instruction.

ELIGIBILITY:

Academic institutions in the United States and its territories that
grant master's or doctoral degrees in STEM disciplines are invited to
submit proposals. In any one competition, an institution may submit only
one proposal, either as lead of a proposal from a single-institution or
as a lead institution of a multi-institutional proposal. The PI must be
a faculty member in an NSF-supported discipline and should serve as the
director of the GK-12 project.
GK-12 Fellows will be selected by awardee institutions, but must be:
citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States at the
time of application; and full time graduate students enrolled in STEM
programs.

FUNDING:

It is anticipated that approximately 25 total institutional awards will
be made. The size for New and Continuing projects will be for up to
$600,000 per year. New awards will be for up to five years.
Continuing projects will be for up to three years.

The stipend for a graduate student will be $30,000 for a twelve-month
tenure. NSF also provides a cost-of-education allowance for tuition,
health insurance, and normal fees of $10,500 per year per student (for
twelve months). If this allowance is not fully required, then it may be
used to support other GK-12 -related activities. All fellows will spend
fifteen hours per week directly involved in GK-12 projects. It is
recommended that fellows spend ten of the fifteen hours in a physical
location where learning takes place. The stipends for GK-12 teachers may
be up to fifteen percent of the funds allocated for a fellow's stipend
(i.e. 15% of $30,000 or $4,500 per year). The stipends for GK-12
teachers may support participation in summer educational institutes,
travel support for professional meetings, involvement in weekend and
evening workshops, and after-hours mentoring of fellows through the

The majority of the E/O Coordinator's time will be spent providing
educational and promotional information about the OWR&R, the
Conservation Awareness Team (CAT) and Environmental Sustainability
initiatives to the various facets of the campus community. This
includes, but is not limited to: creating brochures and fact sheets;
creating and editing the OWR&R's newsletter; overseeing the continued
development of the web page; organizing education sessions and
presenting to classes and offices on various aspects of environmental
sustainability, energy and water conservation, and waste reduction and
recycling topics; organizing special events such as Earth Day; staffing

Create educational materials directed specifically towards UNC Charlotte
students. Work with the staff of Housing and Residence Life (H&RL) to
develop methods of distribution. Work with H&RL staff to educate
students about recycling opportunities during move-in and move-out.
Prepare and present to each Residence Hall programs on recycling and
conservation procedures during the beginning of the year. Work with RC's
and RA's to improve environmental education throughout Residence Life.

An Environmental Specialist Trainee / Outreach Assistant is needed for
the Poplar Island Environmental Restoration Project, departing daily by
boat from Tilghman, MD. Primary responsibilities include development of
educational outreach programs, and coordinating/conducting tours for
clients, adult groups, and student programs.

Tours and student programs focus on an island restoration project which
is a national model for the beneficial use of dredged material.
Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to): care and
maintenance of live turtle and aquarium exhibits, creation and

history research, support in the development and maintenance of
monitoring databases, statistical analysis of data, as well as

Environmental Campaigner for Turtle Island Restoration Network - CA

TURTLE ISLAND RESTORATION NETWORK is seeking an experienced Campaigner to implement grassroots and media campaigns to help prevent the extinction of the Pacific leatherback sea turtle. The campaign focuses on reforming industrial fishing practices that are threatening sea turtles, other marine species and long-term food supply. This is a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal.

The qualified candidate must have the skills and proven initiative to forward the campaign through grassroots mobilization, coalition building, media outreach, education of decision makers, conveying scientific information to other audiences, and involving the public in influencing domestic and international policy. The position involves some travel, organizing and making presentations to various audiences.

Prior campaign experience is a must. Ability to work independently required. Campaigner must be goal oriented and success will be measured in terms of concrete, quantifiable work product.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Spearhead campaign activities, including grassroots mobilization, petition and letter writing campaigns, and coalition building.
* Secure earned media for campaign through press releases, op eds, story placement, etc.
* Write and edit fact sheets, newsletters, briefings, reports, articles, etc.

ABOUT TIRN: Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN) presently has two related biodiversity projects and one public health camppaign: (1) The Sea Turtle Restoration Project (STRP) http://www.seaturtles.org; works to protect and restore sea turtle populations worldwide. Present programmatic work involves international implementation of policies that protect sea turtles, especially ecologically sound, turtle-safe fishery practices; promotion of sustainable economic projects that highlight the value of living wild sea turtles, especially in Central America; (2) The Salmon Protection and Watershed Network (SPAWN) http://www.spawnusa.org works to protect endangered salmon and the habitats on which they depend. SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST/WRITER

POSITION SUMMARY: The Communications Specialist/Writer works with the
Communications Manager and Director of Communications to support USAID's
