> Floridobia sp.
    (Cincinnatia sp.)

> Habitat & Distribution
This species is known only from Lake Waccamaw, Columbus County, North Carolina, and its tributary Big Creek (SCFTM 1990). Porter (1985) reported an average density of 273 per square meter in the lake, reaching maximum abundance in shallow, sandy regions with emergent vegetation.

> Ecology & Life history
No specific life history data are as yet available for the Lake Waccamaw Floridobia. Hydrobiids are dioecious, laying round or oval eggs singly on stones or vegetation (Clarke 1981, Dillon 2000, Brown 2001).

> Taxonomy & Systematics
The Waccamaw Floridobia has for quite a few years been referred to as "Cincinnatia sp."  It
belongs to the hydrobiid subfamily Nymphophilinae, males being characterized by a lobe-shaped penis (or verge) with surficial glandular patterns (Kabat and Hershler 1993).  Floridobia is distinguished by crescent-shaped terminal and ventral glands on a large terminal penial lobe and a slender flagellum (Thompson & Hershler 2002).  The Waccamaw species has yet to be provided a formal name, although Thompson (pers. comm) indicates that a description is forthcoming in a monograph currently in preparation.
