M.A. History: Concentration in African-American History

STRUCTURE of the program:

 

Students opting to add a Concentration in African American history must meet the normal requirements for the master's degree.
Students should enroll formally with the program director in order to have the transcript reflect credit for a concentration. In additon, they must complete one of the two courses of study below and all courses must meet the approval of the graduate program director.

Concentration THESIS OPTION:
• 6 hours of African-American oriented history
• 3 hours of African-American study in another discipline
• 6 hours of African-American oriented thesis

Concentration NON-THESIS OPTION:
• 9 hours of African-American oriented history
• 3 approved hours in another discipline
• 3 hours of African-American oriented independent study or research seminar.

Three hours of independent study on an African American topic may be included as part of the nine hours of course work.
