Boating at Grice
Certification
Certification is required for boat use at the Grice Marine Laboratory. The steps are listed below:

Complete a boater certification course. The SC Department of Natural Resources offers a course online at http://www.boat-ed.com/sc/sc_internet.htm.
Documentation of completion must be provided to the lab manager. - Attend the Grice boat training class. The links under “Boats at Grice” summarize the information provided during the class.
- Complete a minimum of three boat trips. It is recommended that at least one of the trips be conducted on the boat of use.
- Checkout with the Lab Manager. Conducted under the lab manager supervision, the vessel operator completes one trip to the demonstrate working knowledge of boat safety, area of operation and boat. Checkouts are boat specific.
