William aiken fellows society The William Aiken Fellows Society is a group of highly capable students who have the potential to pursue successfully national and international opportunities reserved for top scholars. Throughout their college careers, William Aiken Fellows work closely with the Nationally Competitive Awards office and participate in numerous programs designed to create leadership opportunities, enrich their academic experience and prepare them for graduate work and beyond. Students who receive this impressive designation partake in four skill-building workshops each year; participate in two one-on-one mentoring sessions focused on the development of the personal essay, interviewing skills and academic goal setting; contribute to monthly current event discussion groups led by faculty; attend an annual reception with President Benson and are invited to a number of special lectures and seminars. The Honors College identifies high school seniors as William Aiken Junior Fellows based on the Honors College application. Students who are designated as Junior Fellows have SAT scores of 1400 or above and they are in the top 4% of their classes. They receive this prestigious invitation in April before their first semester at the College of Charleston. Students who accept the designation enroll in Honors Interdisciplinary Create Experience (ICE) during their first semester. After the first academic year in the Honors College, William Aiken Junior Fellows can apply to be inducted into the Society provided they have fully participated in the program throughout the first year and have a GPA of 3.7 or above. Applications are submitted by August before the sophomore year (official deadlines are set annually). The William Aiken Fellow Society application includes: • A list of leadership activities William Aiken Junior Fellows who are selected for induction have a 3.7 or above GPA; demonstrate a high level writing ability; exhibit ambitious and thoughtful academic aspirations; and complete a successful interview with the selection committee. Final selections are made by committee after careful analysis of all criteria. Students who are accepted into the society must maintain a 3.7 GPA to maintain membership. They must also continue to fully participate in all programming and act as Honors Ambassadors for Honors events throughout the year.
