Welcome to the Friends of the Library at the College of Charleston

The Friends advance and support the interests of the libraries of the College of Charleston, and in particular, the Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library. We recognize that this Library is a treasure for the College and, indeed, the greater community. Acting as goodwill ambassadors, Friends help build our collections. We have a special interest in assuring that valuable historical documents and book collections from and about Charleston remain in Charleston for students, researchers and the community. The Friends of the Library stimulate annual and endowment giving that benefits students and faculty and contributes to the intellectual vitality of the community at large. 

More than 1.2 million people – students, faculty and visitors – walked through our doors last year to explore the Low country’s premier research library. The Addlestone Library is a splendid high tech facility with 24/7 access to 30,000 electronic journals and 100,000 electronic books and houses nearly one million items for study and investigation, including one of the region’s finest collections of South Caroliniana. The library’s website offers access to thousands of online resources – databases, e-journals, government documents, e-books and Internet links on many subjects are readily available.     

We are justifiably proud of our library and invite you to become a member of the Friends of the Library. Join us in ensuring that the Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library remains a dynamic hub of discovery that supports education at the highest level.
