M.S. Degree Requirements

A minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate credit are required. In order to guarantee that students be well versed in marine science, they are required to complete a curriculum consisting of the following courses: Physiology and Cell Biology of Marine Organisms, Ecology of Marine Organisms, Physical Oceanography, Biometry, three semesters of seminar, four thesis credit hours, and two electives totaling at least 7 credit hours (see course list).

After successfully passing the comprehensive examination, the degree candidate completes, presents, and defends a thesis on an approved research topic.

Most of the students in the Program are supported by either Graduate Teaching Assistantships or Research Assistantships. In addition, the Deep Water Fellowship is awarded annually to one or two students, and several other sources of local and national competitive research funding are available to students. Read more about funding opportunities for GPMB students ...
