Major Findings of the 2001-2002 Alumni Survey


15.9% of the 2001-2002 graduates responded to this survey.

Approximately 78% of the graduates are employed either full-time or part-time.  When compared to the Class of 00-01, the percentage of graduates employed full-time decreased slightly from 68% to 66%.

87% of the employed graduates secured full time employment within the first 6 months following graduation. Graduates from the class of 2000-2001 had a higher rate, in which 96% of graduates had full time employment within the first six months following graduation.

Most graduates hold jobs in either Business and Industry (41%) or Education (22%).

35% of the graduates who are employed have jobs highly related to their majors. Conversely, 24% of employed respondents stated that their jobs were not related to their major.

58% of the CofC graduates remain in their home state after graduation. Among the class of 2000-2001, 68% of graduates remained in their home state after graduation.

67% of the graduates currently hold jobs requiring at least a bachelor's degree.

24% of the respondents are pursuing graduate/professional education immediately after graduating from CofC either full-time or part-time. This represents a slight increase from last year's rate of 23%.

The School of Sciences and Mathematics has the highest percentage of graduates continuing their education (44%).  The percentage of graduates pursuing additional education is higher for SC residents than for out of state graduates (35% compared to 21%).

Of those going to graduate school, 71% intend to pursue a Master's degree and 29% intend to pursue a doctorate.  Thirty-four percent received assistantships or fellowships for their graduate education.

Institutions where most CofC graduates continue their education include: USC - Columbia, MUSC, and the University of Charleston.

91% of the respondents would choose the College of Charleston for their undergraduate education if they were to do it again.
