Major Findings of the 2003-2004 Alumni Survey


12.3% of the 2003-2004 graduates responded to this survey.

Approximately 85% of the graduates are employed either full-time or part-time.  When compared to the Class of 03-04, the percentage of graduates employed full-time decreased slightly from 72% to 70%.

84% of the employed graduates secured full time employment within the first 6 months following graduation. Graduates from the class of 2003-2004 had a higher rate, in which 89% of graduates had full time employment within the first six months following graduation.

Most graduates hold jobs in either Business and Industry (42%) or Education (20%).

41% of the graduates who are employed have jobs highly related to their majors. Conversely, 23% of employed respondents stated that their jobs were not related to their major.

58% of the CofC graduates remain in their home state after graduation. Among the class of 2003-2004, 51% of graduates remained in their home state after graduation.

73% of the graduates currently hold jobs requiring at least a bachelor's degree.

26% of the respondents are pursuing graduate/professional education immediately after graduating from CofC either full-time or part-time. This represents a slight increase from last year's rate of 19%.

The School of Education has the highest percentage of graduates continuing their education (49%).  The percentage of graduates pursuing additional education is higher for SC residents than for out of state graduates (39% compared to 26%).

Of those going to graduate school, 70% intend to pursue a Master's degree and 30% intend to pursue a doctorate.  Twenty-one percent received assistantships or fellowships for their graduate education.

Institutions where most CofC graduates continue their education include: Citadel, Charleston Law School, MUSC, USC - Columbia, and the University of Charleston.

91% of the respondents would choose the College of Charleston for their undergraduate education if they were to do it again.
