general education workshop
The following links provide responses from faculty who attended the Workshop on General Education
on Monday, October 24th and Tuesday, October 25th, 2005.
At this workshop, over 100 faculty participated in discussions of the goals of a College of Charleston education. Participants were put into small groups and asked to answer the questions presented in the following exercises:
- What should students get out of a College of Charleston education? Regardless of their major, what skills and habits of mind do we believe students ought to acquire as the result of earning a C of C degree? Please identify no more than six characteristics or skills, stating each of them in a phrase or sentence.

- Understanding that these goals must be addressed over a period of several years, please identify the College courses and educational experiences that now ensure that our students can acquire these skills and habits of mind. If your group has time, you may also propose courses or educational experiences that the College should add or subtract from its current requirements in furtherance of these goals.
