Research
of Learning Issues Assignment
In class we developed a list of
learning issues that your team will need to research in order to
address the problem of managing the exploding rabbit population in New
Zealand. Visit the summary
of the learning issues identified in
class. You were asked to divvy up those
learning issues among your team members and write a 2-3 page
typed (single-spaced) summary of your research. Although this
paper is not a formal research paper,
you should be sure and do the following:
Make sure that you clearly state the learning issue(s) that
you are addressing in your paper.
Please cite your sources using APA style. Make sure
that you provide
parenthetical citations and that you provide a literature cited section
at the end of your paper. You should visit and use/cite as many
sources as you feel are necessary to address your assigned learning
issues; however, a minimum of 4 sources is required (a maximum of 2 can
be internet sites, the others should be popular or scientific journal
articles)! You do not need to cite general biological knowledge
that you get from your textbook.
Use the list of starting research resources to begin your
research, but you are encouraged to use the library search databases to
find other related, and possible more up to date
sources.
Evaluate your sources of information for potential sources
of bias or inaccuracy!
The
writing in this paper does not necessarily have to
"flow" like a formal research paper (i.e. you do not need a formal
introductory paragraph, nor transitional sentences between topic
areas); however, you should write in complete sentences, using proper
grammar and spelling. You may simply write bulleted paragraphs
under each of the learning issues assigned to you. The goal is
simply to seek
out knowledge/evidence/information/concepts that will inform you and
your
team about the learning issues assigned to you.
Make sure that you clearly connect your research on that
learning issue, to how it will assist your team in making
recommendations for how to resolve the issues presented in the problem.
Please also read over the "Top
11
Things to Consider When Writing" before you write you research
summary! It may also be a vey good idea to read over the Grading
Symbols Feedback
form. These reflect common problems that I find with student
writing in science, so it may be helpful to be aware of these BEFORE
you write your paper.
Please bring your learning issues
research summary to class
on the day it is due.
IF YOU HAVE TO MISS CLASS
THE DAY IT IS DUE, YOU MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE YOUR SUMMARY
AVAILABLE TO YOUR TEAM MEMBERS THE DAY IT IS DUE. (i.e. email it
to a team member and have them bring 2 copies to class for you).
