Lab Schedule

The laboratory portion of Biology 337 provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about the structure and function of the major invertebrate body plans.  You will examine living and preserved specimens, some collected locally and others ordered from other biological field stations.  During each lab you will complete exercises consisting of observations, dissections, drawings, and thought questions.  Each week a handout will guide you through these exercises; additional paper will be available for you to complete drawings.   You should keep all handouts, exercise sheets, drawings, etc. organized in a notebook to use when studying for the laboratory portion of the midterm exams.

 

We will meet for lab once a week for three hours.  You are expected to attend during your scheduled section and to remain for the duration.  The material may be wet and/or dirty, so dress appropriately.  On weeks when trips to the field are planned (toward the end of the course), I will notify you in advance of the appropriate gear to bring.  Because this lab is focused on handling and examining live and stored specimens, it is impossible to hold make-up labs. The scheduled labs are your only chance during the semester to examine the material and to create a study guide that you will use for the lab portion of the midterm exams.

 

This semester, worksheets will be supplied to you at the laboratory period.  You should complete and hand in the exercise sheet before you leave the lab, or you may turn in worksheets at the following lecture.  Your completed handouts will be graded each week, so take care in completing them.  The handout will be returned to you at the following lab meeting.
