Albert Einstein once said:  “A life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”   It is this spirit of service that we seek to instill in students at the College of Charleston.  Through volunteer work, public service and other philanthropic endeavors, our young people receive a special type of gratification and fulfillment that are uniquely complementary to success achieved in the classroom.

The new website, “The Volunteer Spirit,” developed by Patrick Harwood and the students in his public relations class, highlights some of the campus and community service being performed every day by College of Charleston students.  The website illustrates the selfless dedication of these students to improving the lives of others.

Our goal at the College of Charleston is to help shape our students into well-rounded citizens.  Students like the ones featured here make this job easier.  As educators, we strive to teach and inspire our students. But the truth be told, they can teach and inspire us just as much.

Some people in the general public have stereotypes of college students.  This website shows how caring college students can be-- about their fellow humans and other inhabitors of Planet Earth.

“The Volunteer Spirit” is alive and well on our campus.  Catch the spirit!
