Profile John received his Ph.D. in Film, Literature & Culture at the University of Southern California in 2002. In addition to teaching courses on film, he directs the Film Studies Program, for which he is the acting advisor. He has finished a book manuscript entitled Loopholes: Reading Comically. His next book project, Form and Feeling: New Modes of Expression in Narrative Cinema, looks at formal innovations in, and recent transformations of, traditional narrative filmmaking, including the New Critical Melodrama and the "polyphonic" film.
