News - The Classification of the Planorbidae

The Freshwater Gastropods of North America project is a long-term, collaborative effort to inventory and monograph all 15 families of freshwater snails inhabiting the continent north of Mexico. Our primary motive is the conservation of a fauna more imperiled than understood. The coordinator is Dr. Rob Dillon.

The FWGNA project is decentralized. Individuals and small teams working at the state or regional level are encouraged to seek independent funding, review any and all extant sources of data, and proceed with field surveys as necessary. Overall coordination will be facilitated by a unified database structure. Our final products are projected to include a user-friendly guidebook to the North American freshwater gastropods and a web-accessible database featuring the conservation status, range, and critical habitat for each species.
