William V. Moore

Dr. Moore joined the faculty of the College of Charleston in 1972 as Assistant Professor of Political Science. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1976 and to Professor in 1983. He was elevated to the position of Distinguished Professor in 1999. Dr. Moore specializes in American Politics and, for the 2005-06 academic year, is teaching American Government, State Politics, Southern Politics and Extremist Politics.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Moore has served the College in a number of administrative positions. He was Speaker of the Faculty 1983-84; Director of Maymester and Summer Sessions 19984-86; Acting Director of the Masters in Political Administration Program 1988-89; Co-Director of the Taft Institute for high school teachers 1991-92; Chair of the Department of Political Science 1987-93; and Director of the MPA Program 1993-99.

Dr. Moore received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Southern Illinois University and his Ph.D. from Tulane University.

In addition to the distinguished faculty awards, Dr. Moore was Governor’s Professor of the Year nominee from the College in 1992 and 1995, and was named Governor’s Professor of the Year in 1997.
