Why do I need a Cougar Card?

The Cougar Card is the official College of Charleston identification card issued to enrolled students.  Many campus departments use the Cougar Card as a means to grant access to information and services.

  • On-campus, photo identification
  • Dining plan or dining dollars card
  • Library card
  • Campus recreation access card
  • Admission to residence halls
  • Personal debit card to access funds in a Cougar Cash Account
  • Pass to ride CARTA buses free of charge

The card is a necessity of campus life; please carry it at all times.  The first card is free of charge.  All subsequent cards are $10.00 each (subject to change).  The Cougar Card is non-transferable and can be invalidated immediately if lost or stolen.

Summer Orientation Students

All students participating in summer orientation programs will have the opportunity to obtain a Cougar Card.  Photos will be taken in Cougar Card Services.  Please be prepared to present one of the following current, government issued forms of photo identification to obtain you first Cougar Card:

  • Driver’s License
  • State issued ID card
  • Passport
  • Military ID

Cards will be distributed the afternoon of the second day of orientation at the College of Charleston Bookstore, 160 Calhoun St.  If this is not a convenient time, cards will be available in August during move-in weekend at your assigned residence hall or at Cougar Card Services.

Make a deposit to your Cougar Cash Account when your photo is taken and funds will be available for you to purchase textbooks or supplies when you pick up your Cougar Card at the bookstore!
