Library and Academic Computing News         Spring 2002

People & Their Faces
We have several new faces in the Library and Academic Computing.  Please join us in welcoming them into our midst.

Frank Hamilton is the new Student Support Coordinator for Academic Computing.  His office is in the library computing lab.  Before coming to the College, Frank worked at New Horizons Computer Learning Center in Charlotte, NC.  Prior to that, Frank was a manager at Bell South for 24 years.
Sean Green has joined the Academic Computing staff as the new webmaster.  Sean graduated from Princeton and has worked on projects for major corporations including Virgin Atlantic.
Tanya Gaillard is the newest member of the cataloging group, but certainly not new to libraries.  Before taking her position here, Tanya worked for the Charleston County Library.
Annette Blum was a cataloger at the Charleston County Library and an upper and middle school librarian at Porter Gaud.  This is a return engagement for Annette who worked in the shelving department “a while back.”
Zinnia Willits is working with Annette Blum and  Harlan Greene on processing the Jewish Archives on the National Endowment for the Humanities grant.  Zinnia holds a Masters in Public History from the University of South Carolina and worked at the Augusta (GA) Museum of History and the Carlos Museum at Emory University prior to coming to Charleston.
Harlan Greene is working with Annette Blumon and Zinnia Willits on processing the Jewish Archives on the National Endowment for the Humanities grant. Harlan is "on loan" from the Charleston County Public Library where he is an archivist in the South Carolina Room and Special Collections.
Yotham Kugel is a research assistant working on the Jewish Archives on the National Endowment for the Humanities grant.
Scott Parr has joined Academic Computing as a full-time employee.  Scott was a lab operator for several years while a student at the College of Charleston.  Since graduation, he’s been working with the technical support team, earning certification for both MAC and Dell equipment and winning accolades from faculty and staff for his ability and skill in solving their technology problems.

Theodore McDaniel, Jr. is the new Computer Support Technician for the Marine Resources Library.  Theodore is a graduate from the Information Technology department at the University of South Carolina.

And as for our current staff...

Tom Gilson, Head, Reference Services is the vice president of  the South Carolina Library Association.  He will become president in January 2003.
James Williams, Head, Circulation is the vice chair, of the Library Administration section of SCLA.
Deborah Vaughn, Assistant Reference Librarian is the chair of the College and University section of SCLA.
Katina Strauch, Head, Collection Development, is currently one of only two candidates for president of the American Library Association.
