About Us
 

The School of Education, Health, and Human Performance at the College of Charleston offers nationally accredited teacher education and athletic training education programs. Our teacher education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and our athletic training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Initial teacher certification programs and specialized concentrations in the physical education and health arena are available at the undergraduate level. Additionally, we offer several graduate initial teacher education programs (M.A.T.) as well as advanced programs (M.Ed.) designed for currently certified teachers.

  • Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle Grades Education (ECEM)

    The Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle Grades Education prepares teachers to meet the educational needs of children and youth in the areas of early childhood, elementary and middle level education. The curriculum involves coursework on campus as well as field experiences and clinical practice in urban, suburban and rural public school settings. EDEE offers both graduate and undergraduate programs.
 
  • Foundations, Secondary and Special Education (EDFS)

    The Department of Foundations, Secondary, and Special Education prepares teacher candidates in special education and secondary education. On-campus coursework is complemented by field experience and clinical practice in a variety of local school settings. Additionally, this department offers the core or foundational courses for all teacher education programs. EDFS offers both graduate and undergraduate programs.
 
  • Health and Human Performance (HEHP)

    The Department of Health and Human Performance prepares students who have an interest in kinesiological concepts and health promotion.  This undergraduate curriculum teaches students to work in a diverse community of lifelong learners and helps them acquire a depth of knowledge, research techniques, critical thinking skills and competencies in the professional areas of Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, and/or Teacher Education.
