Students and Faculty
What makes the College of Charleston experience so exceptional?
It starts with our students. College of Charleston students are phenomenally bright, creative, independent, fun-loving and caring. They come here from the top of their classes, eager to take advantage of the College’s unique opportunities to do something truly extraordinary.
In the 2008-'09 school year, College of Charleston students raised over $100,000 for deserving programs in the Charleston community and around the world. Graduating seniors won Fulbrights, international affairs fellowships and graduate scholarships to study coral reefs in Australia, political science in Russia and economics in London. They wrote award-winning plays, won conference championships and made friendships that will last a lifetime.
Our accomplished faculty members share a commitment to their students and a research outlook that defines the term “teacher-scholar.” Charleston professors are here because they love what they do and because they’re personally committed to the success of every one of their students. They acknowledge the talent of these students by engaging with them in meaningful, graduate-level research even as sophomores or juniors.
It’s an exciting time to be a College of Charleston student. After nearly 225 years, it feels like we’re just hitting our stride. Our reputation is spreading. Admissions are getting increasingly competitive as more and more exceptional students make us their top choice. Over the next year, we’ll open the doors of remarkable new facilities like the science center and the Cato Center for the Arts.
