Lynn L. Cherry

1995 Distinguished Advising Award


Dr. Cherry joined the faculty of the College of Charleston in 1991 as Instructor, assisting with the development of the communication major. She was promoted to Assistant Professor of Communication in 1993 and Associate Professor in 1999.

In 2001, Dr. Cherry moved to administration and currently serves as Assistant Vice President of Undergraduate Academic Services.

Dr. Cherry received her B.A. degree in Speech/Drama from Cameron University, her M.A. in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her Ph.D. in Communication from Louisiana State University.

While a member of the faculty, Dr. Cherry was recognized for teaching and service beyond the call of duty. When the Department of Communication was growing rapidly, Dr. Cherry taught extra classes and took on extra students after her classes were full. Students attest to the rigor and thoroughness of her teaching; advisees to the excellence of her advice on academic programs and careers.

Dr. Cherry formed and coached the forensics team. In 1995 she scripted, directed and edited an orientation video for new students. In 1997 she was the College representative for the American Association of University Women.
