James P. Deavor

James P. Deavor, a native of Asheville, North Carolina, received his B.S. in Chemistry from Mercer University in 1978 and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of South Carolina in 1983. That same year he was appointed Assistant Professor at the College of Charleston. In 1991-92 he had a post-doctoral appointment at the University of Florida with Dr. J.D. Winefordner. In 1995 he was appointed Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, in 1997 was promoted to professor, and in 2002 returned as Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Dr. Deavor is a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma Chemistry Fraternity, the American Chemical Society, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Southeast Association of Analytical Chemists, Society for Applied Spectroscopy, South Carolina Academy of Science, South Carolina Association of Chemistry Teachers, and the South Carolina Science Council. Some of his recent awards include the 2002 School of Sciences and Mathematics Distinguished Achievement Award and the 2004 Distinguished Service Award, South Carolina Section of the American Chemical Society.
