Jeffrey A. Foster
French
1990 Distinguished Service Award

Dr. Foster came to the College in 1975 as Assistant Professor of French. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1982 and continued to teach until his retirement in 2003.
Dr. Foster served as Chair of the French Department 1994-2003. He established the French Honor Society – Pi Delta Phi – at the College and became its Southeast Regional Vice President 1998-99. Other service to the College included French Section Coordinator, 1982-1994; faculty advisor to Alpha Tau Omega, 1981-2001; Interfraternity Council alumni advisor, 1989-1994; and acting head of the Division of Language, 1997.
Dr. Foster earned his B.A. degree from Brooklyn College, his M.A. from Hunter College, and his Ph.D. from Rice University.
Before joining the College of Charleston faculty, Dr. Foster taught at Colgate University 1968-1975.
In addition to the Distinguished Service Award, Dr. Foster received the IFC Award for Chapter Advisor of the Year in 1994. Since his retirement, he has served as a volunteer with College Alumni Relations. His needlework was exhibited at the 2004 Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
