1989 Distinguished Teaching Award

Kathy Haney was an Instructor of English at the College of Charleston 1974 – 1977. Promoted to Assistant Professor in 1977, she continued to teach at the College until 2000. She founded the Writing Lab in 1976 and served as its director until 1986.

Professor Haney received her B.A. degree from St. Francis College and her M.A. from the University of Dayton.

Before coming to Charleston, she was an Instructor at the University of Minnesota, Duluth and at West Virginia University.

Professor Haney was co-director of the Charleston Area Writing Project and was Exchange Professor at Oingdao Ocean University, People’s Republic of China in 1988.
