Becky Herring, CPA, started at the College of Charleston as a part-time Assistant Professor of Accounting in 1971, accepting a full-time appointment the following year. She was promoted in 1975 to Associate Professor. She served as Chair of the Department of Accounting and Law beginning in 1991 and was the recipient of the Bank of America Chair for the 2000-2001 school year.

Mrs. Herring was named Associate Professor Emeritus upon her retirement in 2002. Known as “the consummate advisor,” she left a legacy of solid accounting graduates who named her in 1993 as one of the “Most Approachable” instructors on campus. Throughout her tenure, she provided career counseling and placement, assisting graduating seniors with finding employment.

Mrs. Herring received her B.S. and M.Ed. degrees in Business Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

In appreciation of Professor Herring’s outstanding contributions, the Rebecca B. Herring Scholarship for accounting majors was established in 1990 by family members, former students, colleagues, friends and the accounting community.
