2004 Distinguished Teaching Award

Dr. Jones began teaching at the College of Charleston as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics in 1989. He was Director of the Master of Science in Mathematics program from 1991 until 1994 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1995. Subsequent to his Teaching Award, he was nominated in 2005 for CASE Professor of the Year.
His research interests are in probability and statistical decision theory as well as the application of mathematics to music.
In 1994 Dr. Jones was awarded a Fulbright Grant and spent the 1994-95 academic year teaching and doing research at the University of the Andes in Venezuela. He returned to Venezuela for the 2001-02 academic year on a second Fulbright Grant. In 1997-98 he was invited to spend a sabbatical year at the University of Costa Rica. His research interests are in probability and statistical decision theory as well as the application of mathematics to music.
Dr. Jones received his B.A. Mathematics and Chemistry from Warren Wilson College, his M.S. in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
