Michael P. Katuna received his Ph.D. from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1974. His research interests include: Marine geology, sedimentology, and costal plain stratigraphy. He is currently working on several projects which focus on the relationship between geologic framework and the evolution of the S.C. barrier island coastline, stratigraphy of the Lower Coastal Plain of South Carolina, assessment of the beach renourishment projects in South Carolina, and beach monitoring of shoreline change. He has also recently been published in Southeastern Geology, given several presentations, and is actively involved in student research projects.
