2007 Distinguished Teacher-Scholar Award

Simon Lewis received his Ph.D. at the University of Florida in 1996. Since then he has been teaching African and Third World Literature at the College of Charleston. Dr. Lewis also edits the literary journal Illuminations: An International Magazine of Contemporary Writing and directs the program in the Carolina Lowcountry and Atlantic World. His recent publications include White Women Writers and Their African Invention, released by University Press of Florida, 2003. His areas of interest include: South African literature, African literature, Postcolonial literature and South Carolina-West Africa connections.
