Shirley L. Moore received her B.A. from Georgetown College with a double major in English Literature and Performance Arts and her M.A. in English Literature from N.C. State University in Raleigh in 1973. In addition Professor Moore has completed some 30 additional semester hours of post-graduate work in Creative Writing, Speech Therapy, Communication, and Performance Arts at Western Carolina University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and the University of South Carolina. She joined the faculty in 1976 after working as a visiting instructor at several colleges in the Charleston area.
In 2006 Professor Moore retired, after over 30 years of teaching with the College of Charleston. During her time with the Communications Department she assisted with the development of the department’s undergraduate major and minors. In addition to her work with the College, Professor Moore is also an accomplished performer, director, and critic. She has preformed for local, national and international audiences, and has directed locally at the Dock Street and Queen Street theatres. In 2005 she won the Chair’s Award for Departmental Service.
