James E. Neff

2003 Distinguished Research Award


James E. Neff received his B.S. in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Iowa in 1982, and both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Astrophysics from the University of Colorado. His 158 publications include 50 refereed and invited review papers, 63 edited conference proceeding papers, and 45 meeting abstracts. He has served as Principal Investigator on over 150 sponsored research observing programs. His research interests include stellar chromospheres and coronae, solar-stellar and solar-terrestrial connections, plasma astrophysics, circumstellar material in proto-planetary systems, local interstellar medium and high-resolution spectroscopy. Aside from teaching classes and supervising 30 independent study courses at the College of Charleston, Dr. Neff also has teaching experience at The State University of New York, Bucknell University, University of Colorado, and University of Iowa.
