Martin Perlmutter

A Professor of Philosophy, Dr. Perlmutter joined the College of Charleston faculty in 1979. He chaired the Philosophy Department for eight years prior to becoming the Director of the Yaschik/Arnold Program in Jewish Studies in 1991. A long-time member of the Medical University Hospital’s Ethics Committee, his teaching interests include philosophy of religion, Jewish thought, ethics and medical ethics. Dr. Perlmutter also teaches the summer travel course to Israel, Jordan and Egypt.
Dr. Perlmutter attended the Jewish Theological Seminary at City College of New York and received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.
Before coming to the College of Charleston, he taught at the University of Texas at Austin and University of Tennessee at Nashville.
