Beatrice Stiglitz

1992 Distinguished Teaching Award

Dr. Stiglitz joined the faculty of the College of Charleston in 1979 as Professor of French and Italian and taught widely in a variety of disciplines, often under the rubric of the Honors Program. She was known for her success in motivating students to excellence.
Her legacy lives today throughout the campus. Upon her death in December 2004, Dr. Stiglitz left the College an endowment for a scholarship for students to travel to France. The language lab at the Addlestone library is named in her memory. Her residence on Queen Street was bequeathed to the College’s Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program to house visiting scholars in Jewish Studies.
Born in Russia and raised in Romania, Dr. Stiglitz earned her Ph.D. from City University of New York.
