DR. ANDREW SOBIESUO joined the College of Charleston faculty in 1990 after completing his M.A. and Ph.D. at The Ohio State University. He received his B.A. (Hons) from the University of Ghana, and a Diploma in Spanish Language and Culture from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In 1981, he returned to the Universidad Complutense de Madrid on a Spanish Government Scholarship to study Hispanic Philology (1981-84). Prior to coming to the College of Charleston, he taught at the Ohio Wesleyan University and The Ohio State University as Instructor and Lecturer respectively. As Professor of Hispanic Studies, Dr. Sobiesuo taught several courses on Spanish literature and culture, and was chair of the Department of Hispanic Studies from 1998-2003. He has published a manuscript and several journal articles on Spanish literature and culture in addition to numerous conference papers at national and international conferences. He is currently an editorial board member of the Journal for Dagaare Studies (University of Hongkong) and has served as manuscript reviewer for Peter Lang Publishers. He is a member of Phi Beta Delta (International Scholars Honor Society).

At the College of Charleston, Dr. Sobiesuo served on several faculty committees including the Tenure, Promotion and Third Year Review, Research and Development, Faculty Hearing, and Advisory Committee to the President. He has also served as External Reviewer on Tenure and Promotion Reviews at several universities. Professor Sobiesuo continues to serve on various committees at the College and is a member of many professional organizations including NAFSA: Association of International Educators. He served on the Arcadia University CEA National Advisory Board and has participated in several program reviews abroad. As Assistant Provost for International Education and Director of the Center for International Education, Dr. Sobiesuo develops, coordinates and implements policies on international education including study abroad, international students and scholars services as well as the National Student Exchange program.
