"The School of Sciences and Mathematics provides the intellectual foundation in the technical disciplines that are key elements in a liberal arts education for all students at the College. We also strive to equip students with the academic and practical knowledge for success in graduate and professional schools and in a variety of careers. We are committed to the highest quality in our programs, which the SC Commission on Higher Education has recognized with numerous Commendations of Excellence. The School receives over $4 million in external research support, which is remarkable for our size. This funding enables students to have many opportunities for individual research under the guidance of faculty members as well as significant involvement in inquiry-based learning in the classroom and teaching laboratory.
