An International student is any applicant who is a non-U.S. citizen wishing to attend the College of Charleston for either degree or non-degree purposes.

The College of Charleston accepts International students for both Fall and Spring semesters.

To be considered for admissions, International students must provide the following:

  • Completed online application with a $50 fee.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the English language through satisfactory results on either the TOEFL, IELTS, SAT or ACT. The minimum requirement for the Internet-based TOEFL is 80. Please note that a score below 20 on an individual component of the exam may cause an applicant to be inelgible for admission.The minimum requirement for the computer-based TOEFL is 213 and for the paper-based TOEFL is 550. The minimum requirement for the IELTS is a 6.5 overall band score in the Academic Format. The College of Charleston does not accept the IELTS for General Training.
  • All high school transcripts. Transcripts must be translated into English.
  • All college transcripts from International Institutions must be sent to a Credential Evaluation Agency for a course by course evaluation. Students should also provide individual course descriptions translated into English for College of Charleston faculty review.
  • Certificate of Finances: certified bank statement indicating sufficient funds (in U.S. dollars) adequate to meet your educational expenses at the College of Charleston. Minimum balance needed is $30,540.00 (US) for 1 year.

**Starting Spring 2010, College of Charleston will require both the TOEFL (or the IELTS) and the SAT for International freshman applicants.

**Scholarship funding is limited at the College of Charleston, and therefore, International students are not considered for merit-based scholarships.
