Each semester, approximately 100 senior citizens enroll in classes
at the College of Charleston. These students may be working towards
a degree, auditing classes or taking courses for personal enrichment.
You can meet with an advisor, register for classes of your choice, and pay your $25 registration fee. Registration occurs from 9:00 am - noon in room B11 of the Lightsey Center at 160 Calhoun Street each Fall and Spring semester the day after classes begin (call 953.5620 for specific dates).
Summer school and maymester class registration occurs in their office on the first day of classes for each term.
Residency
Determination:
Please contact the Legal Residency Office at (843) 953-7311 to determine
if you are a legal resident of the State of South Carolina.
Course Prerequisites:
Each course has varying requirements for previous course work to
enable a student to be successful. It is best to meet with the course
professor prior to or at the beginning of the semester to determine
if you may be able to sign up for a course when you do not have
the specified pre-requisites.
Auditing
Courses:
Each course has varying requirements for audit students. It is best
to meet with the professor prior to or at the beginning of the semester
to determine if both you and the professor have the same expectations
of participation in classwork and assignments. Computer Science, Studio Arts, Music Performance, and Creative Writing courses may not be audited.
Documentation Required:
Documentation needed for registration is a valid South Carolina driver's license or picture ID. This will suffice for documentation of residency and age criteria to participate in this program.
