Parts of the Application

As an international student, you will need to follow the application process for a freshman, or transfer if you have attended a post-secondary institution. In addition, you will need to submit the following with your application:

  • Official transcripts from each secondary school (high school) you attended. If your official transcript is not in English, please submit an English translation of the transcript
  • Official transcripts from each post-secondary school (university) you attended, or from your 13th year of secondary education, if you wish to have your courses evaluated for transfer credit. You will also need to submit a course-by-course report prepared by a Credential Evaluation Agency (fee charged). View a list of approved Credential Evaluation Agencies and important details on transferring international credits.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the English language if it is not your native language. Proficiency will be shown by satisfactory results on the SAT, and either the TOEFL or IELTS exam. English will be considered your native language if it is the ONLY official language of your home country and the primary language spoken in your home. If English is not your native language, you are required to submit proof of English language proficiency, regardless of citizenship.
  • Certification of finances form, which must be completed and certified by a bank. It shows that you have sufficient funds (in U.S. dollars) to meet your costs at the College of Charleston for one year of study. Please be aware that the College of Charleston cannot offer international students financial aid. Visit the financial aid website for information about outside scholarships and loans.
