The College of Charleston
understands that the college admissions process is an exciting yet often
overwhelming experience for both students and parents. We encourage the
parents of prospective students to take active roles in preparing their
students for college and in helping their students select the college
that best fits them. While we fully support parents taking part in their
students' college admissions process, the Office of Admissions and Adult
Student Services, operates under the guidelines of the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which prevents us from
disclosing admissions information to anyone other than the applicant.
Frequently
Asked Questions
Do
you offer interviews?
No. An interview is not a part of the admission process and is not considered
in the evaluation of a student for admission. Students are encouraged to visit campus and attend one of our information sessions to obtain information about the admission process and our programs. One of our counselors can speak to you individually during your visit.
How
long does it take to find out if my student is accepted?
Students that apply for Early Notification (have a completed application by November 1) will receive a decision postmarked by December 22. Early Notification is a non-binding process. Students that apply during our Regular Admissions process (November 2 - February 1) will receive decisions postmarked by April 1. We encourage all students to apply during our Early Notification phase.
How
can my student apply for scholarships?
Students who apply by December 1 are automatically
considered for academic scholarships. We encourage all students that want
to be considered for academic scholarships to apply during the Early Notification
process.
How
safe is the campus?
The College of Charleston is located in an urban setting. Our campus is
historically significant and host to numerous visitors who come to enjoy
the beauty and architecture. We encourage all members of the campus community
to use common sense and practice personal safety at all times. A campus
safety escort service is available as well as emergency call boxes, which
are strategically places in forty-three locations across campus. Copies
of the annual security report containing campus security policies and
procedures as well as crime statistics are available at both Student Affairs and Public Safety.
What
should my student do about parking?
Because campus is situated in the middle of an urban area, it can be difficult
and expensive to park. Fortunately, because of the location, it is not
necessary to have a car and CARTA bus service is available free of charge to students. Freshmen who have less than 30 semester hours
of college work are not eligible for campus parking. The Auxiliary Services Office 843.953.7834 does provide listings of off-campus parking spaces available to students.
What
types of payment plans are available?
Payment Plans, Refunds and Withdrawals are handled through the Treasurer's
Office. You may contact that office directly at (843) 953-5572 or visit
their website for additional information.
