Technology for Entering Students

CougarTrail
CougarTrail is used by CofC students for numerous activities. CT allows College of Charleston students to search for and register for classes, pay tuition, check their grades, review financial aid and much more. Prospective students can check their application and housing status. To log into CougarTrail go to https://cougartrail.cofc.edu and please note that the Student ID is your Social Security number and the PIN is preset to your date of birth.

If for any reason your PIN does not work, please email the Admissions Office with your complete name and address and we can reset your PIN for you.

WebMail
All CofC applicants who have been accepted to the College of Charleston have a CofC email account that is accessible through WebMail. WebMail is used by the College to contact students with vital information, such as Financial Aid and class registration dates.

Setting up a WebMail Account
Log into CougarTrail and select the "Set Your Cougars Password" link. This will allow you to find out the email address and change the email password. After changing the password, go to webmail.cofc.edu and log into your account.

The following are recommendations to help you better manage your email account:

Filter CofC emails to a "CofC" folder
Choose the "Folder Manager" link and "Add New Folder" called "CofC". Then select "Options" and "Filters" to add a filter that moves mail to the CofC folder if the sender contains cofc.edu. This will automatically sort official College of Charleston correspondences from other mail.

Forward emails to another account
A student can also set WebMail to forward emails to another address by going to webmail.cofc.edu/admin.

All students are responsible for maintaining their WebMail accounts.

Computers at CofC
The College of Charleston does not require students to own personal computers. The college campus has over 250 computers in two main labs, along with several smaller labs around campus including five in the residence halls. Because the labs can often be at full capacity, it is recommended that students have their own personal computers. Academic Computing has produced a list of minimum requirement to connect to the campus networks. Click here to see those requirements.

Wireless at CofC
The College of Charleston has installed a secure wireless (802.11b) network around campus for use by students, faculty and staff. This means that a student can do internet research from the Cistern.

The College of Charleston is ranked 27th in the nation in wireless networking. That makes us #1 in the Carolinas and Georgia and 3rd in the Southeast overall. For more information, check out the article on Intel's website.

For more information about what type of equipment is needed for the wireless network go to wireless.cofc.edu
