"The MPA Program at the College of Charleston has been an unexpected blessing in my collegiate career. Having completed an undergraduate degree in Music Performance, I was hoping to find a graduate program close to home that would offer administrative courses in the arts. Upon discovery of the MPA Program, I was soon after informed that an Arts Management track was available for this degree. Offering a wide variety of interesting and engaging courses taught by a group of experienced and knowledgeable faculty, the MPA/Arts Management Program has been an academically enriching and truly enjoyable experience. " -Ralph Blanco, MPA/Arts Management student and piano teacher/performer |

Arts Management graduate and undergraduate students, theatre students and faculty had the privilege of attending workshops, Q & A sessions, and an interview by Beryl Dakers, SCETV Arts Producer regarding the lives of both Jane Alexander and Edwin Sherin. Through these events and one-on-one time with this distinguished couple, students walked away with a stronger sense of self and place within the field of the Arts. Jane Alexander: a distinguished actress, Tony Award winner, activist and author has graced the stages of Broadway, commanded attention on the big screen in films such as The Great White Hope, and received Oscar nominations for her role in the films such as Kramer vs. Kramer, and All The President’s Men. Edwin Sherin: actor, Artistic Director, Emmy Award winner, and polished director and executive producer of feature films, television movies, and episodic dramas such as “Law and Order” has been engaged in captivating audiences around the globe. The National Arts Advocacy Day 2008 (March 31st-April 1st) The 2008 National Arts Action Summit in Washington, D.C. was a huge success as hundreds of arts leaders, advocates, faculty and students arrived from all across the United States to attend workshops, arts briefings and seminars on the importance of arts awareness in preparation for lobbying with Congress on Capital Hill. Special guest speakers: author Daniel Pink, actress Kerry Washington, five-time Grammy Award winner John Legend and members of Congress enlightened audiences with words of vision and hope for the Arts. Performances were given by Peter Yarrow, John Legend and VSA arts vocalist Marleena Coulston. MPA Arts Management student, Crystal Ford, Arts Management undergraduates, Lindsay Wells and Frances Kablick, joined together in these advocacy efforts in lobbying for the Arts with Arts Management Program Director Scott Shanklin-Peterson, Assistant Dean of the School of the Arts, Michael Haga, and the South Carolina Arts Council.
