Dr. Larry J. Ferguson
A native Charlestonian, Dr. Ferguson is in the private parctice of general dentistry. Honors and awards include; National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Community Service Award, Honorary Doctorate, Gulf Coast Theological Seminary, and The Citadel Man of the Year Award. Dr. Ferguson was appointed by the Governor to The Citadel Board of Visitors, 1989-1995.
Virginia Friedman
Virginia Friedman is the Vice President for Strategic Communications at the College of Charleston. An accomplished writer and native of New York, she received her B.A. in American Studies at the College of Staten Island and her M.L.S. at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
Roslyn J. Harper
Ms. Harper, a native of New York City, has lived in Charleston since 1974. She holds a B.A. degree in English from the City College of New York and a M.Ed. in Counseling and Guidance from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville. Ms. Harper has taught for twenty-five years at Trident Technical College. She was elected to the board of the Avery Institute in 1999 and served as board President from 2001 to 2003. She is currently the board's Treasurer. Ms. Harper also serves on the board of the South Carolina Association for Developmental Educators and the South Carolina Council of Teachers in English. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Morris Brown A.M.E. Church.
Ms. Clara Hodges
Clara J. Hodges is an Administrative Specialist and the main contact for the Provost and the Office of Academic Affairs staff at the College of Charleston. She is President of the E. A. Burns Elementary School PTA; and Scholarship Chair, Charleston County District IX PTA.
Mr. Luther Seabrook
Mr. Seabrook is an educator and education advocate and consultant. He has been Superintendent of Community School District 5 in New York City, Senior Executive Assistant for Curriculum and Instruction, South Carolina Department of Education, and President and CEO of The Seabrook Group.
Trevor L. Weston
Dr. Trevor Weston is an Assistant Professor in Music at the College of Charleston. He is primarily a composer with a secondary interest in African American Music history.
Honorable Lucille Whipper
Lucille Whipper completed her primary education in Charleston, then enrolled in Talledega College and fulfilled the requirements for the B.A. Degree. She earned a M.A. in Political Science at the University of Chicago. Mrs. Whipper taught and counseled in Charleston public schools for nearly twenty-five years. She was elected to the Charleston County School Board and the S.C. House District 109, making her Charleston's first African American woman legislator. Lucille Whipper is the recipient of many honors and awards, as well as, the past President and co-founder of the Avery Institute of Afro -American History.
