Biographical Note: Sandra N. Fowler was a school teacher in Charleston County, President (1980s) of the Board of Directors of the Miriam B. Wilson Foundation ( Old Slave Mart Museum), Membership Director (1994-95) of the Democratic Women of Charleston County, and member (1992-93) of the Charleston Area Community Relations Committee.

Scope and Content: Approx 70 items (ca. 1967-1995)

Description: The papers consist of various documents related to Fowler’s position as president of the Board of Directors of the Miriam B. Wilson Foundation and to her interest in black history, including articles and brochures related to black soldiers in the Civil War, the southern Civil Rights Movement, and several artifacts from the 1969 Hospital Workers Strike in Charleston (notably a hat distributed by Local 1199). Other documents pertain to Fowler’s involvement in the Charleston Area Community Relations Committee and Democratic Women of Charleston County. Miriam B. Wilson Foundation papers regarding the Old Slave Mart museum focus on the board’s attempts to keep it solvent, with a history of its existence.
