Effective Visual Relationships
"If the visual task is contrast, comparison, and choice--as so often it is-- then the more relevant information within eyespan, the better."
E. Tufte, Envisioning Information, 1990

Relativity
Avoid visual noise. Focus should be the data which is clarified and enhanced by its visual representation. Ideas being presented should not be overpowered or obscured by the visual elements around or describing them.

layout
Hierarchy of information should convey order of importance through size and placement.

Repetition
Color, direction, weight, texture, dimension, movement, expression and shape. "Repetition is an effective way of achieving unity." Paul Rand, A Designer's Art

Consistency in the visual display of information allows for clarity. Similar types of information should be treated the same with elements of font size and style, color, and placement.

Color
Color should be a consistent element in treatment of elements.

website navigation
Clear Direction
Easy to move through site.

Site structure should support the tasks to be performed.

Broad Overview
Look for a broad overview of material that can be explored in more detail if desired.
