Editorial Guidelines

1. Each department (or major program) is entitled to one paper in the journal.  Additional spaces will be available for interdisciplinary programs, for departments outside the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs, or for especially deserving departmental runners-up.  The editorial board member from each department or major program is responsible for submitting the outstanding paper from that discipline, and for nominating other worthy papers for consideration for the additional spaces. The editors will be responsible for selecting these additional papers.

2. Since the outstanding paper from each discipline is guaranteed publication, editorial board members should be sure that the papers they submit are of sufficient quality.  A department can and should decline to submit a paper if this is not the case.

3. Though the outstanding paper from each department or program is guaranteed publication, the editor may request further revision from the author before the paper is published.  Authors therefore must agree to make themselves available (if only by phone or e-mail) during the early summer.  The editorial board members should also be available to assist in these revisions, if needed.  Authors and editorial board members should also be available to examine the final page proofs of their papers during the later part of the summer.

4. There is no set length for papers published in the journal.  However, editorial board members should take special care before submitting papers of less than 10 or more than 40 pages.  The editors may request revisions if submitted papers are not within these guidelines.

5. Authors should conform to the guidelines set out in the Instructions for Authors.  Editorial board members are responsible for assisting the authors of submitted papers with complying with these guidelines.

Tentative editorial schedule for 2008:
