New Faculty Join Department Three new full-time faculty members, Michael Lee, David Moscowitz, and Leigh Moscowitz, will join the Department of Communication in August 2008. Leigh Moscowitz will come to the Department of Communication after several years at Indiana University, where she recently completed her doctoral degree in journalism and mass communication. She has taught at Indiana University and at Butler University in Indianapolis. Prior to earning her advanced degrees, Leigh Moscowitz worked for several years in media industries, including several years as a media relations manager and corporate communications manager at Medical Manager Corporation (now WebMD). Leigh Moscowitz has presented numerous academic papers and has had her work published in Newspaper Research Journal. Her current research emphasizes news constructions of social issues, such as the ongoing media coverage of the gay marriage debate. David Moscowitz will come to the Department of Communication after three years as Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Butler University in Indianapolis. He also taught previously at Wabash College in Indiana, at Bradley University in Illinois, at Miami University in Ohio, and at Indiana University. He earned his doctoral degree in communication and culture from Indiana University. David Moscowitz’s research emphasizes such topics as assimilation, whiteness, gender, and Jewish identity. His work has appeared in such journals as Text and Performance Quarterly and Studies in American Jewish Literature. Michael Lee will come to the Department of Communication from the University of Minnesota, where he is completing his doctoral degree in communication studies. He has taught at the University of Minnesota and at the University of Georgia. Michael Lee has had several award-winning conference papers in his research area, political communication. His work has been published in the Quarterly Journal of Speech and the Journal of Applied Communication Research. “We are pleased to see these exceptional faculty members bring their expertise and energy to the Department of Communication and the College of Charleston,” said Dr. Brian McGee, chair of the department. “We know our students will learn a great deal from these talented teacher-scholars.”
