Bio Michael Reardon earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from Purdue University in 2003. He earned his Master's degree in Communication Theory and Methodology from Cleveland State University in 1996, and his B.A. in Communications and Business from John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH in 1991. Michael teaches a variety of classes, including Organizational Communication (Comm 326), Business Communication (Comm 332), and Introduction to Communication Studies (Comm 210). He also created a new class for the College called Communication and Technology (Comm 380), which examines the effects of new technologies on interpersonal, organizational, and social interactions. The new technology course will draw from many new literatures and Michael's research interest in the effects of technology on organizations and in the classroom. His dissertation was on organizational identification in virtual teams, or teams that you do not share the same time or space with your teammates. Virtual interactions are becoming commonplace in today's technologically advanced society, and his work should offer some important insight into this new and growing field. Michael's research interest of technology and pedagogy has been helped by his selection into the inaugural Faculty Technology Institute at the College of Charleston as well as his participation on the Strategic Technology Planning Committee, which constructed a vision for how technology will be implemented across campus. As part of the FTI, he conducted research on the use of chatroom technologies in the classroom, and plans to continue that work. Before returning to graduate school, Michael worked as a sales representative in the medical industry in Ohio, concentrating on respiratory, anesthesia, and home I.V. supplies and equipment. He also worked as a Strategic Planner at Wyse Advertising in Cleveland, while he was earning his Master's degree. He is a
member of the Department's Executive Committee and contributes to many
service activities. Dr. Reardon is married with two sons. Some of his interests include golf, basketball, reading,
and an occasional stint in community theatre. |
