| GARRISON KEILLOR SPEAKS TO COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON STUDENTS February 12, 2004 Famed public radio broadcaster and best selling author Garrison Keillor spoke to several Communication majors today during a visit to the College of Charleston. In his topic on writing, Keillor told the group that good writing “rescues the reader from narcissism.” “Good writing is a series of rewriting. Writing starts off very messy. It will be something that you will be afraid to give to a teacher of anyone else. Gradually it improves.” Keillor also told the students that he is working on a new book entitled, “Why I am a Democrat” and also a new screenplay with director Robert Altman. Keillor was at the College of Charleston to speak to two Communication Department classes. Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" is the country's most popular weekly, live radio show. The show has a weekly audience of more than four million listeners and can be heard on more than 550 radio stations. He is also the author of over a dozen books including “Lake Wobegon Days” and his current bestseller “Love Me”.
